Link availability to value
Asset management should consider when failures occur, not only total outage hours. An outage during scarce intervals can be far more expensive than an outage at low prices. Maintenance, insurance and replacement decisions should use lifecycle cash flows.

Working relationship
Lost energy value ≈ unavailable MW × hours × relevant price
What to keep separate
Gross lost revenue is not the same as lost profit or contractual damages.
Your task
Compare planned outage windows using expected prices, workforce availability and reliability consequences.

Key terms in plain English
- MW
- Megawatt: a measure of power, or how quickly energy is transferred. A plant's maximum MW is not its actual output in every interval.
- MWh
- Megawatt-hour: a quantity of energy. A steady 1 MW for one hour delivers 1 MWh.
